'Perfect for him' - Paul Scholes names Manchester United's biggest injury loss vs Sevilla

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has suggested Lisandro Martinez will be missed during the Europa League clash with Sevilla on Thursday night.

Erik ten Hag's side travel to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium for the second leg of their quarter-finals clash. The Reds drew 2-2 with the Spanish outfit in the first leg at Old Trafford, having squandered a 2-0 lead after Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire both scored own goals.

United also lost centre-back Martinez through injury last week, with the Argentine having to be carried off with a fractured metatarsal. The 25-year-old has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, and with Raphael Varane also sidelined with an injury, the Reds are starting with Maguire and Victor Lindelof against Sevilla.

Martinez has been impressive since arriving at Old Trafford from Ajax last summer. He has made 45 appearances in all competitions this term, including 10 in the Europa League. Former Reds star Scholes admitted it was a real shame the Argentine defender was absent for the clash in Seville.

Asked if he was the biggest injury loss for United, Scholes said: "It’s difficult to say, we’ve got two really experienced centre halves, these two are captains of their countries at different times so look, he’s a loss of course, he’s been fantastic.

"Obviously we thought the injury was a little bit worse last week, thankfully it’s only a metatarsal and won’t be as long as we first feared, but look, squad places, it’s an opportunity for these players now to come in.
