Pep Guardiola warns Man City not to fall into Etihad Stadium mentality trap

In January, Pep Guardiola saw Manchester City come from behind to beat Tottenham, before launching an extraordinary attack on his own club at their complacency from the very top to the players on the pitch and the fans in the stand.

Nobody was immune from Guardiola's now-infamous 'Happy Flowers' rant, which would go on to prove a turning point as City put a Treble-winning run together that saw them catch Arsenal to win another Premier League title, win their first-ever Champions League title, and claim the FA Cup with a derby victory over Manchester United at Wembley.

This season, with a fourth-straight title in their sights, City face another competitive title race with Arsenal, but with Liverpool much improved and Tottenham also looking promising under Ange Postecoglou. Spurs are the visitors this Sunday, looking to become the first team to beat City at the Etihad since November 2022.

City have won 24 of their last 25 games at the Etihad, including that comeback win over Spurs, but Guardiola was keen to warn of the threat they will face this weekend against Postecoglou's men.

Keen to open his players' eyes to the difficulty of Sunday's fixture, Guardiola warned them not to believe their winning run at the Etihad gives them any kind of advantage in a warning over complacency that echoed his complaints from Spurs' last visit.
