'The last eight years, it's over' - Pep Guardiola makes Man City statement after Club World Cup win

Pep Guardiola said he had nothing else left to win at Manchester City and that the "job was done" after the Club World Cup became the 16th title he has won as Blues boss.

But Guardiola intends to "buy a new book and start to write it again", hailing success in Jeddah as the end point of his first era as City boss, before an attempt to add more silverware to the cupboard.

City beat South American champions Fluminense 4-0 in Jeddah to become world champions, having already claimed domination in the Premier League and won the Champions League for the first time in Istanbul in June.

Guardiola walked into his post-match press conference at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium and reeled off former players who had helped make it all possible, before insisting he had the motivation to go on, with 18 months left on his contract at the Etihad.

"I would like to say we had the feeling we would close the chapter, we won all the titles, there’s nothing else to win, I had a feeling the job was done, it was over," he said.

"Enzo helped us to win the treble, Mikel, all my staff, all the players from day one, Vincent to Kyle as captains, all players mentioned, Joao [Cancelo], Cole Palmer, Riyad, Ilkay, helped us to achieve something incredible to be here and to play this tournament. It's most difficult to arrive here, once we are here it’s perform well.

"Now it’s Christmas time, buy another book and start to write it again. The last eight years it’s over."

Guardiola's speech initially sounded like he might be able to call it quits, but when asked about his motivation to continue he said
