Penalty to Rangers branded 'soft' and het-up Philippe Clement challenged over THAT red card claim

Stuart Kettlewell has branded Rangers' penalty award at Ibrox as one of the 'real soft variety'.

The Motherwell boss caused a major shock at Ibrox as he masterminded a 2-1 win over Philippe Clement's men to create a huge twist in the title race ahead of Celtic's trip to face Hearts at Tynecastle. Theo Bair had the Steelmen in front early on as his effort beat Jack Butland but James Tavernier levelled with an unstoppable penalty beyond Liam Kelly.

Dan Casey fired home the winner for the visitors to stun Govan into silence but it is the nature of the Rangers penalty award that has become a talking point for the 'Well gaffer. He reckons it was a decision that took too long to decide with it nearly taking up to four minutes before a decision was made and says he would see himself very fortunate if Motherwell would be awarded a spot-kick for anything similar - something he insists they have NOT had at all all season.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Kettlewell said: "I have seen the penalty back because it is so long in waiting to see what the decision is. Four minutes I think we were by the time the penalty is awarded.

"I think it is of the real, real soft variety. I really do. I sometimes think the players reactions and how they fall or jump when there is contact can have an influence. To my mind having watched it back again, I would see myself really fortune if we had been given a penalty like that. I can assure you we have not had one of them this season."
