Paul Scholes names wildcard striker signing who would be perfect for Manchester United

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes that Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez is someone who the club should consider in their quest to strengthen their attacking options.

United are set to prioritise the addition of a new centre-forward ahead of next season and plan to invest a substantial amount of money in strengthening their forward options. Their lack of a potent centre-forward has been a major weakness in what, up until now, has been an encouraging campaign for the club.

Reds manager Erik ten Hag, as reported by the Manchester Evening News last week, has earmarked Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as his preferred target to strengthen his forward options this forthcoming summer. Napoli ace Victor Osimhen, who has scored 23 goals for the Italian giants this season, is also on their radar.

However, Scholes has raised interesting concerns about the duo. On Kane, he believes United could struggle to convince Tottenham to sanction a departure, while he believes Osimhen's characteristics may not suit the Reds' style of play.

Instead, the former United midfield ace believes Inter star Martinez, who has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season, would be an ideal alternative.

"I think there are a few out there," Scholes told BT Sport, speaking ahead of Thursday night's clash with Real Betis. "I just don't think Kane will move from Tottenham at this point, I think it's tricky business dealing with Tottenham and Daniel Levy, he could string you along right until the very last minute of the transfer window and leave you with nothing.
