Harry Kane told he lacks 'ruthlessness' to force Manchester United transfer

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been told he lacks the ruthlessness needed to force a transfer to Manchester United in the summer.

MEN Sport understands that Kane is United's top target this summer as they bid to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. Wout Weghorst was signed on loan from Burnley in January but it is widely believed that he is merely filling a gap until the summer.

Currently, there are concerns surrounding whether the Reds will be able to sign Kane at the end of the season. Sources at United state that they are wary of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's historic stubbornness to allow his captain to leave north London.

Thus, United are keeping an eye on other potential signings in the form of Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund, Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani and Napoli's Victor Osimhen. According to former England and West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce, United face a stumbling block to signing Kane because he lacks the anger to force the move away.

In his Tippy Tappy Podcast, Allardyce said: "I’ll say this and I’ll say it again. I don’t think he’s ruthless enough to do it [force a move from Tottenham].

"Those players that leave are the ones that cause a huge amount of trouble to the football club. Not turning up for training, causing problems at the training ground – the manager then has to go to the owner and say: ‘Get the best price you can.'

"Harry won’t do that." During the international break, the 29-year-old became England's all-time record goalscorer thanks to a penalty in the 2-1 victory over Italy in Euro 2024 qualifying.
