Passengers stranded after ski holiday as weather causes flight chaos to Manchester
Passengers were stranded in France at the end of their ski holiday after weather conditions caused chaos on flights back to Manchester on Saturday (December 28).
Travellers faced major disruption at UK airports after the country was hit by heavy fog over the weekend. Manchester was one of a number of airports hit by air traffic restrictions as a result of the weather.
Restrictions affecting Manchester Airport, set by the air traffic controller Nats, continued through to Saturday. Passengers were hit by delays to several flights over the last three days, with some flights also cancelled amid foggy conditions.
easyJet passengers also claimed to have been 'stranded' in Tenerife after overnight delays were caused by weather conditions in the UK on Saturday.
Videos taken from Chambery Airport on Saturday (December 28) showed queues of passengers who arrived at the airport for their return journey to Manchester - to then be told the flight had been rescheduled overnight. It is thought foggy conditions in Chambery also restricted flight capacity.
It is understood this was because the TUI plane was unable to leave Manchester to collect them. The flight was later rescheduled for Sunday night (December 29) and from a different airport 90 minutes away, meaning passengers had to carry heavy ski gear to another hotel for the night.
John Smith, from West Yorkshire, who was booked to fly back to Manchester with TUI on Saturday evening, said: "We had been picked up in Val Thorens ski resort in France at 2.30pm, for a flight from Chambery to Manchester, departing at about 8pm.
"They stopped the coach mid way and we received messages saying flight cancelled due to weather conditions. Then they continued to take us to the airport where
