Paris 2024: Irish in action on Day 2 of Paralympics

After a busy opening day for Irish athletes, swimming, cycling and archery again take centre stage with the first of the rowing and athletic events to be held for the 35-member travelling party.

It's another early start for Kerrie Leonard in the women’s W2 individual compound archery as she battles for a spot in Saturday’s last eight at the Esplanade des Invalides.

She will take on 2016 gold medallist Jiamin Zhou of China with the action starting from 8am with Leonard first up.

The Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium will host the PR2 mixed doubles sculls Para rowing heat featuring Katie O'Brien and Tiarnán O'Donnell at 9.50am, with the pair set to make their Paralympic debuts in heat 1 with world record holders Great Britain in heat 2.

Training partners Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy enjoyed Olympic success on the same course earlier this month, and O’Brien and O’Donnell will be hoping that it’s a good omen.

Galway athlete Shauna Bocquet has the honour of being the first Irish athlete to take part in a track athlete at Paris with her T54 5000m heat. The action begins at 10.50am with Bocquet, set to take part in three events at the Games, in heat 2.

At 10.30am, Ronan Grimes is in qualifying action in the C4-5 1000m time trial with the final scheduled for 1.52pm, should he progress.

Likewise, Katie George and Josephine Healion will be hoping to qualify for the women’s b 1000m time trial at 12.58pm with the final at 3.34pm.

There are big hopes for swimmers Róisín Ní Riain, back in the pool for a second day, and Ellen Keane at La Defense Arena.

Ní Riain is in S13 100m backstroke final action at 6.51pm.

Keane will have to navigate heats in the SB8 100m breaststroke, her heat 2 race at 10.32, before a possible final event at 7.21pm.
