Over 100 players are competing at the second Lekki Scrabble Classics (LSC), which began yesterday at Ikoyi Club 1938. The tournament, which was strategically set to coincide with Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary, is expected to create the necessary ambience to mark the special national day.

This year’s championship also bears a special tag as it came just few weeks after top players from 10 African countries converged in Lagos for the memorable Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) President’s Cup and the Dr. Winifred Awosika Foundation African Youth Championship.

A star prize of N500,000, as well as sports gifts, are on offer at this edition of the Classics.

The 100 players are playing in different categories over 18 rounds in the singles category of the two-day event.

In the maiden edition, James Eruvje toppled Tega Okiemute in the final game on Table 1 in the 12th round to claim the inaugural title, while Gbadebo Olufemi and Khaleel Adedeji were placed second and third respectively.
