Jose Peseiro sets ‘highest standards’ for players to represent Nigeria

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has said the standard for anyone representing the Nigerian men’s senior national team must always be the highest.

Peseiro said this on Tuesday in his reaction to the Super Eagles’ performance after the team rounded off their October international break with a win over ten-man Mozambique.

The Super Eagles on Monday secured their first victory in friendly matches since the year 2019 with a very unimpressive 3-2 win against the East African nation of Mozambique.

“After another period of training and matches, with the team and staff united, we have reinforced various aspects and identified mistakes to be corrected,” Peseiro said.

“The standard for anyone representing the Super Eagles must always be the highest. The players’ effort was excellent and as a consequence we achieved the victory in a friendly game for the first time in almost 5 years.”

Nigeria did not show much improvement as they came back from a goal down to beat Mozambique. Faisal Abdul Bangal put Mozambique 1-0 up on seven minutes with Francis Uzoho slow to react.

Terem Moffi did well to net the equalising goal for the Super Eagles in the 18th minute with a rebound. Frank Onyeka got his first international goal with a powerful shot in the 30th minute.

Moses Simon thereafter put the West African nation into two-goal lead with a penalty in the 45th minute. Mozambique whose player had received a red card in the 37th minute, however, started the second half quite well.
