Out of nowhere: Journalist claims 'very good' star now 'likely heading to' West Ham

Journalist Graeme Bailey has tipped Josh Brownhill for a summer move to West Ham United while speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast.

There have already been quite a few Premier League clubs starting to make moves in the transfer window, including the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, which could certainly see competition for places at the top end of the Premier League get a lot tougher.

West Ham failed to do any business earlier in the year, which may have counted towards them failing to qualify for a spot in the Champions League or Europa League, although they could be set to make their first splash in the summer window, according to Bailey.

It appears that West Ham and David Moyes are looking at recently relegated players, as Burnley’s Brownhill is looking likely to join the Hammers.

Bailey said: “There’s a lot of players who are going to leave [Burnley]; we know Tarkowski, Mee – Josh Brownhill is obviously likely heading to London Stadium… a very good player.”

There has been nothing really reported that suggest a deal is even close in recent weeks, so this comes as quite a surprise for Bailey to think it’s fairly nailed on.

While signing someone who has just been a regular for Burnley during a season in which they were relegated may appear to be a left-field move for a club who qualified for Europe such as West Ham, Moyes has a history of offering players another lifeline – you just have to look at Craig Dawson and how often he’s featured for the Hammers.

Brownhill would likely add some depth to West Ham’s midfield as well as top-flight experience without costing a lot, with 90min claiming that he should be available for a ‘reasonable price’ this summer.
