West Ham 'have asked' about bringing 'phenomenal' £43m star to London Stadium

West Ham have asked about Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse, says Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Saints captain is thought to be a target for the Hammers this summer, and Brown has told GIVEMESPORT that David Moyes is a “big fan”.

According to the Daily Mirror, Moyes would like to bring Ward-Prowse, who is valued at £43m by the CIES Football Observatory, to the London Stadium this transfer window.

It comes after a fantastic Premier League campaign, where the 27-year-old was able to score 10 goals and provide five assists for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side. His overall game has been described as “phenomenal” by former team-mate Charlie Austin.

Former Arsenal player Paul Merson, however, is keen to see Ward-Prowse move to the Emirates instead.

“I don’t understand why Arsenal are not pulling out all the stops to try and take James Ward-Prowse from Southampton,” the Sky Sports pundit said in his Daily Star column.

“Arsenal need to buy experience and they would be buying an experienced England international who knows the Premier League and would make a huge difference to them.”

Brown says there is definitely interest in Ward-Prowse from West Ham, though he thinks a deal would be extremely difficult to do at this moment in time.

Speaking to GMS, the Daily Star journalist said: “Ward-Prowse would be someone you’d expect to go straight into that team. How you’d get him in the system they play, I’m not entirely sure. It might require a bit of a tweak, but David Moyes is definitely a big fan and they have asked about James Ward-Prowse.
