"Might speed up Benrahma's departure" - Journalist now drops interesting West Ham claim

West Ham opting to listen to offers for Said Benrahma is a surprising move by the club, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Benrahma arrived at the London Stadium less than two years ago, but he could be moved on in the near future.

Benrahma scored eight goals and provided six assists for West Ham in the Premier League last term as the team finished seventh to secure another year of European football.

However, The Guardian has reported that David Moyes wants the club to consider selling him this summer to increase his transfer budget.

The same report states that Moyes is ready to step up his interest in Jesse Lingard, who plays in a similar position to Benrahma.

O’Rourke feels Benrahma has made a useful contribution to West Ham’s success over the last two years, and he has admitted that the transfer report on the 26-year-old has caught him by surprise.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “I’m a bit surprised that West Ham are ready to cut their losses on Benrahma and let him go already, because I think he does add something to the team. Maybe West Ham are looking at other potential replacements, and that might speed up Benrahma’s departure.”

Only Jarrod Bowen (22) and Michail Antonio (18) were directly involved in more goals for West Ham than Benrahma (14) last season in the Premier League.

Indeed, he scored seven more top-flight goals last season when compared with his previous season at the Irons, indicating that he was starting to find his best form.
