Journalist: "Frightening" 50-cap Moyes target could take West Ham closer to the Champions League

West Ham would be a “good landing spot” for Manchester City ace Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 50-cap Ukraine international played his part in City’s title-winning campaign last season but has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium.

Zinchenko was underused by Pep Guardiola for the majority of the season, although an injury to Kyle Walker, which saw Joao Cancelo move to right-back, allowed him to enjoy a run in the side in City’s final few games.

He would start four of their final six Premier League fixtures and claimed three assists during that period, including for the crucial second goal against Aston Villa, which secured Pep Guardiola’s side a fourth top-flight crown in five years.

Despite his key contributions late in the campaign, Zinchenko was on the pitch for less than 2000 minutes across all competitions, which has led to interest from elsewhere.

According to the Evening Standard, West Ham and Arsenal are keen on signing him this summer, with his future set to be decided in the coming weeks.

The report states the Hammers would be looking to sign him as a left-back, while Mikel Arteta’s side would prefer to use him in centre midfield, although both teams are ‘attracted’ by his versatility.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It does seem like Manchester City are willing to listen to offers for him. He’s quite an underrated player, he’s always done a good job for City, so West Ham could be a good landing spot for him, and he could fill a number of roles for David Moyes’ side.

“West Ham will be looking at someone like Zinchenko as they look to make that next step in consistently challenging for a top six place or even a top four place.”
