Opening date for Stockport's new Greggs drive-thru confirmed following historic pub demolition

A new Greggs drive-thru will open in Stockport next month, it has been confirmed. The new store on Stockport Road in Cheadle Heath will open on the former Farmers Arms pub site, which was demolished earlier this year.

Plans to demolish the historic pub at the junction of Stockport Road and Edgeley Road, a local landmark, were controversially given the green light last Autumn. This was in spite of numerous objections from residents.

The popular bakery chain has been opening drive-thru shops across the UK in increasing numbers in recent years - the first was in Irlam in 2017. It is one of over 15 that have opened across the country, including a second in Greater Manchester on Bridgewater Avenue, Over Hulton in Bolton.

A Greggs spokesperson said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Stockport next month. While we are unable to share any details at the moment, we will share further information nearer the time.”

While little information on the new site is available at present, Greggs' website says that customers can expect 'deliciously golden bakes', alongside 'freshly made' sandwiches, Fairtrade coffee and 'tasty' treats.

However, unlike other Greggs shops, customers can stay in the comfort of their own car and make your order at Greggs' order point, before driving round to the collection window where orders will be ready and waiting.

The Farmers Arms pub closed during the first Covid lockdown and never re-opened. The brewery Greene King then submitted a planning application in July 2022 asking for permission to clear the site, which is said to have been home to a pub as far back as the 19th century, and replace it with
