Open letter to every Huddersfield Town player and Carlos Corberan after season to restore pride

Huddersfield Town may have fallen 90 minutes short of promotion to the Premier League but can look back on the 2021/22 season with an immense amount of pride after defying all the odds to finish third in the Championship and going on to reach the play-off final.

That defeat to Nottingham Forest should not overshadow that, and judging from the response the players and coaches have received from fans on social media, it seems like you agree.

In that spirit, we thought it was only right that we should say something to every player who played a part in Town’s Championship campaign this season, as well as to Carlos Corberan and his staff. Our Town writer Steven Chicken has put together a personal message for each of them; hopefully we capture at least a bit of the supporters’ sentiments with each of these too.

We only got to see you in one league game but hey, it was a clean sheet! I’d be pleased to see you stay on as back-up if you want it but if you do move on then wishing you the best of luck and hope you’re finally able to find a proper long-term home where you’ll get regular football.

You don’t need me to tell you anything your teammates and fans haven’t already said throughout the season – partly because I’ve already said it to you over Zoom already anyway! But I’ll admit you got my vote for player of the season – just a phenomenal campaign. Absolute pleasure to watch you perform so consistently this season and you deserve all the plaudits that have come your way.
