Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘lined up’ for shock first managerial job since Manchester United exit

Bayern Munich have reportedly named Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on their list of potential interim manager targets should Thomas Tuchel be sacked before the end of the season.

The Norwegian, who famously scored the winning goal against Bayern in the 1999 Champions League final, is yet to find new employers after leaving Manchester United in November 2021.

Bayern are experiencing a stuttering season under Tuchel, with the club eight points behind in the Bundesliga title race and currently 1-0 down against Lazio after the first leg of their Champions League tie. He risks becoming the first Bayern boss in 12 years not to lift the league title.

Should the former Chelsea boss be shown the door before the end of the season, the German giants are likely to install a caretaker boss ahead of a new permanent appointment in the summer, with reports suggesting Bayern are targeting Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen.

Now, Sky Sports Germany claims that Solskjaer is on the list of potential interim options. It says Bayern would ideally like to keep hold of Tuchel until the end of the season, albeit may be forced to act if the campaign continues to go south.

Sporting director Christoph Freund is thought to have kept an eye on Solskjaer, even before leaving Old Trafford more than two years ago. Earlier this month, the 50-year-old said he envisages a return to the dugout, but perhaps only if the right job comes along.
