Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could hold the answer to Manchester United right-wing dilemma

It sums up what a mess Manchester United are in that they spent £119million on three right-wingers in the last two years, and are still looking to add another one to their squad this summer.

Having failed to land Jadon Sancho in the 2020 transfer window, United looked to appease fans with the acquisitions of Amad and Facundo Pellistri, two exciting but incredibly raw attacking talents.

It was accepted both of them would need plenty of time to settle before they could be unleashed on the first-team properly, but then 10 months later, Borussia Dortmund lowered their Sancho asking price from £108m to £73m.

United still viewed Sancho as their top target for the right-wing role and snapped at the opportunity to finally get their man, even if it meant hampering the progress of the two youngsters they had signed a year earlier.

Sancho was the exception. A homegrown talent, an England international, was still young and had vast experience on the biggest stage in Europe. There was one problem; he wasn't really a right-winger.

While he was indeed right-footed and played on the flanks, 15 of his 38 appearances for Dortmund in his final season actually came on the left, where he looked to cut inside and open his body up to have a wide passing range.

It's been the same at United this season too. Sancho has made 27 of his 38 appearances on the left wing and has rarely convinced in his sporadic showings on the right-wing.
