Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was wrong about Paul Pogba at Manchester United

Paul Pogba joked that his move to Juventus 'was like a holiday' before he came back 'home' to Manchester United six years ago. In the end, it was actually his return to Manchester that seemed more like a vacation, one with the same amount of chaos as those who will brave the region's Terminal One will no doubt experience over the summer season.

There were tantrums, moments of joy and brief spells of escapism from United's wider problems, but Pogba's exit has brought with it plenty of reflection and fresh debate on just how good he really was.

On his day, he was unplayable, but so rarely did it seem to be his day. Pogba was excellent in the Europa League victory five years ago, talismanic in the comeback to delay Man City's title lift a year later, and then world-class during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's incredible run as caretaker manager.

Three years on, some would chant 'F*** off Pogba' as he left the Old Trafford pitch for the last time as a United player against Norwich.

At the end of the 18/19 season, Pogba admitted he wanted a 'new challenge' as he marketed his own brand in Tokyo. A month later, his then-agent Mino Raiola added: "Everyone knows the willingness of Paul to move on. We are in the process of that. Everyone knows what the feelings of Paul are."

United should have cashed in on a player who clearly didn't want to be there while he still retained a high market value
