Oborevwori U-17 football tourney: Organiser warns teams against fielding over-age players

In his effort to discover young footballers for various clubs and Nigeria’s national teams, a member of the Local Organising Committee for the eighth National Youth Games, which is slated for Delta State, Onoriode Oborevwori, has concluded preparations to stage a U-17 football tournament, which will hold at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on August 30 and 31.

But the sponsor has cautioned participating teams that they risk being sent packing if they field overage players
According to the organisers, some foreign football scouts and coaches, including Paul Omamomo Ojo, have arrived in Asaba for the tournament.

“The sponsor has warned the organisers to be very vigilant, particularly on issues concerning overage players. Failure to adhere to the age instructions will amount to automatic disqualification of the team,” one of the officials said.
According to the official, the sponsor has put in place financial packages and some consolation prizes for the best-performing team and others.

Each participating team is expected to provide a maximum of 16 players just as football academies and clubs are requested to submit their logos and jersey pictures to avoid clashes.
