Norway issue encouraging Erling Haaland update after Man City injury scare

Erling Haaland will travel with the Norway squad to Scotland ahead of their final Euro 2024 qualifier on Sunday, handing Manchester City some much-needed positive injury news.

City have already seen four players withdraw from international duty this week, to add to their three players already out with injury. Haaland went down in Norway's friendly win over the Faroe Islands on Thursday holding his ankle, before completing the game.

The Norway team doctor confirmed it was the same issue that forced Haaland off at half-time of City's win over Bournemouth recently and had already contacted City to keep them informed. Now, Norway boss Stake Solbakken has offered a more positive outlook on Haaland's fitness.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Solbakken said: "I haven't spoken to him [Haaland] today, but I saw that he was walking fine in the hallway. Now there is a recovery session, and then he will probably be looked after by Ola [Sand, club doctor] and the physios throughout the day. But right now it looks like it's going well."

Asked if Haaland would be in the squad to face Scotland on Sunday, Solbakken answered that he would be.

Whether Haaland does play or not remains to be seen, but City will be encouraged that he does not appear overly impaired by the knock, and is in the plans for their next game on Sunday.

City face Liverpool next week on their return to domestic action, and may only have 12 fit outfield players if Haaland returns to the City Football Academy as a doubt.
