Northern Soul show with Stuart Maconie and BBC Concert Orchestra returning to Manchester following sold-out gig

A special show transporting audiences back to the spirit of the Northern Soul movement will be coming back to Manchester later this year following a huge sold-out tour.

Northern Soul Orchestrated will feature some of the most famous songs from the 1960s and 70s era with performances from a host of special guest vocalists alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Curated by BBC Radio 6 Music broadcaster Stuart Maconie and composer Joe Duddell, the show will take place at Manchester O2 Apollo on November 26, with tickets going on sale this Friday here.

The show has already proved to be a big success, following a successful sold-out run earlier this year including a night at Manchester’s Aviva Studios, the home of Factory International, last month.

Four brand new shows have just been announced, including the Manchester date. Northern Soul Orchestrated will also come to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on November 25, Stockton Globe on November 28 and Birmingham Symphony Hall on November 29.

Once again hosted by Stuart, the show has been dubbed as one of the biggest celebrations of Northern Soul music. Stuart described this year’s earlier shows, which also included performances in London and in Sheffield, as ‘joyous emotional nights’.

The show was curated following the success of the Northern Soul BBC Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in July last year, which was screened as part of a special Northern Soul celebrations last year. The night of themed programming also marked the 50th anniversary of Wigan Casino, a notorious hotspot in the former Empress Ballroom where clubbers bopped away from the early evening until as late as 6am.
