Manchester United can bank unexpected profit to help solve transfer obstacle

In just over a week the doors at Carrington will swing back open to Manchester United players, with the first batch back in for pre-season getting accustomed to new surroundings during a £50m renovation of the facility.

But for some of those players set to return on day one of pre-season, they may only be fleetingly acquainted with a new set-up. Sales are in the offing and some of the squad will expect the writing to be on the wall. They will be in the unusual position of training at United, but expecting to play elsewhere next season.

So far there have been no sales this summer and if Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho return to pre-season with their parent club it could be a little awkward, given their statuses. There is plenty of interest in both forwards at the moment.

Casemiro is another who will be back at the end of next week, having not made Brazil's Copa America squad. United will listen to offers for the 32-year-old but it could be a protracted situation unless a club in the Saudi Pro League firms up interest.

Two players currently set to return for pre-season but who will expect to be sold are Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof. Both had contract options taken with deals expiring next summer and that makes this window the perfect time to sell.
