"No surprise" - Journalist drops fresh Wolves exit claim involving £45m star

Ruben Neves remains on the radar of several clubs despite being unable to prise the midfielder away from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Neves has been a key man since joining the West Midlands outfit for £15.8million from Portuguese giants Porto in the summer of 2017.

Neves has hit the headlines after claiming Arsenal celebrated their midweek victory at Molineux as if they had ‘won the league’.

A first half goal from Gabriel was enough for the Gunners to claim all three points despite Gabriel Martinelli’s sending off, meaning Wolves missed out on the chance to climb into the Premier League’s top seven.

Ironically, Neves’ admission came after he had been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal during the recently-closed January transfer window.

According to The Sun, Wolves held firm in their bid to keep the 24-year-old at Molineux despite interest from the north Londoners and Manchester United.

The report suggests Neves is rated by his current employers as being worth in the region of £40million and £45million.

O’Rourke believes Neves is among the leading Premier League stars in his position and, as a result, was not surprised to see clubs courting him last month.

The journalist feels Wolves’ divisional rivals will maintain their interest heading into the summer, when the transfer window reopens.

He hints the West Midlands club may be forced to contend with lucrative bids for the 26-cap Portugal international.
