Darren Ferguson reveals Aston Villa transfer bid after Cameron Archer heroics

Aston Villa youngster Cameron Archer is hitting his straps at Preston North End after netting a third goal in six Championship appearances.

The 20-year-old is making a real impression out on loan at Deepdale after joining The Lilywhites during the January transfer window.

His fine finish against Peterborough United won the game 1-0 and since his arrival at Preston, Ryan Lowe's side haven't lost a game.

Archer has helped propel Preston from 16th place to the top half of the Championship in under three weeks, while only four points separates the club from a play-off position.

And Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson - who wanted to sign Archer on loan himself last month - applauded the Villa loanee for his moment of quality in an otherwise poor football match at the Weston Homes Stadium this afternoon.

Ferguson said: "There is no way we deserved to lose a game in which my goalkeeper didn’t have a shot to save.

"It was settled by the one piece of real quality from a player we tried to sign.

"We asked about Cameron before the January window even started but we were told he wasn’t available at the time.

"That’s the way it goes sometimes but as soon as he hit it I knew it was a goal.

"We wanted a committed and determined performance with intensity and we got that.

"We also got the fans on side and that was key as I felt they were in the mood to turn but we just need a break. ‘Wardy’ hit the bar and they went straight up the pitch to score."
