Nick Montgomery in 'advanced' Hibs next manager talks as Mariners boss closes in on Easter Road

Nick Montgomery is in advanced talks to be the next Hibs manager and has landed in Scotland for talks with deal agreed to bring him from Central Coast Mariners to Easter Road.

Record Sport first revealed the Aussie boss was in the running and it's believed other targets, such as Neil Lennon and Stephen Robinson, were considered. Australia manager Graham Arnold claimed he was in the picture too but his assertions he was offered the job was met with bemusement by Easter Road chiefs.

Hibs gave David Gray the reins in the interim after Lee Johnson's sacking and he presided over their dead rubber second leg with Aston Villa and a big win over Aberdeen at the weekend. But behind the scenes the club quickly settled on a shortlist of next permanent managers and now it's believed Montgomery has won the race. The news broke in Australia that a deal had been struck with his current club and now Record Sport understands Montgomery is in Scotland to thrash out personal terms. It's believed he is likely to take the job if and when an offer arrives.
