Celtic dragged into Feyenoord gloom club as sneering Dutch legend turns snidey about Scottish football

Avoiding a "mistake" against Celtic will be key to Feyenoord's chances of staying in Europe beyond Christmas.

That's the view of former Dutch coach Aad de Mos who doesn't rate the Premiership champions' Champions League chances. Brendan Rodgers' team landed a respectable group under the circumstances with Feyenoord joining Atletico Madrid and Lazio in their section. Atleti are expected to win it, but second and third look up for grabs. And Celtic are hopeful of a run into the knockout stages - either in the Champions League or through dropping into the Europa.

Feyenoord are equally hopeful though and De Mos, who previously managed Ajax and PSV, fancies their chances of a run. He took in the Old Firm derby which saw Rodgers' team beat Rangers over the weekend and said before the game that swerving defeat in Glasgow could be the piece of the jigsaw Feyenoord need to stay in the competition.

Speaking about the group, De Mos said: "These are nice people's clubs. Atletico is a big contender based on their past. With a coach and a fighting machine they have.

"They are very suitable for group stages where they have to play six games. They won't give much away at home. And they are also highly dangerous on the counter. That has been the case for years. Feyenoord will have to keep their heads up.

"They got good results against Lazio, which is a plus. If they don't make a mistake in Scotland against Celtic, then they can come a long way. In that pool I definitely see Feyenoord finishing third, with all due respect to Scottish football. I'm going to watch Rangers against Celtic again on Sunday, which doesn't amount to much. Unless you buy into it in away games being carried away by the crowd, I definitely see Feyenoord
