New season, same problems: Kaizer Chiefs draw blank in PSL opener
The Molefi Ntseki era at Kaizer Chiefs started with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Chippa United in front of a vibrant Moses Mabhida crowd in Durban on Sunday.
Chiefs, under the new tutelage of the former Bafana Bafana mentor, were solid defensively, but again did not show the bite in the attacking third of the field that will be needed to challenge for the 2023/24 PSL title.
The new look Glamour Boys fielded four debutants in Ranga Chivaviro, Edson Castillo, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Given Msimango, but there was little to get excited about in front of goal as the sides shared the possession stakes without ever looking dangerous on attack.
These are early days yet, of course, but Mamelodi Sundowns' 2-1 win over Sekhukhune United on Friday was the early marker that Chiefs fans would have wanted to see a response to.
It was not to be, though, and with Orlando Pirates having gone down 1-0 at Stellenbosch on Saturday night, Sundowns already have the early ascendency.
In Sunday's other 15:00 kick-off, TS Galaxy beat newly promoted Cape Town Spurs 1-0 at the Mbombela Stadium.

Sekhukhune United 1-2 Mamelodi Sundowns
