New PNE keeper Freddie Woodman on pre-season start, permanent home and kaizen mantra

Preston North End's new goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has settled in well as pre-season training continues.

Woodman's permanent arrival from Newcastle United was a welcome addition for supporters and the club alike, replacing Daniel Iversen who returned to his parent club Leicester City. The goalkeeper department was the main priority for the club and identifying a signing of his stature within the Championship has laid down a marker in terms of future business at Deepdale.

The 25-year-old has spent six separate loan spells away from Tyneside before deciding to move to a new permanent home under boss Ryan Lowe. Having spent time away with his family this summer, Woodman soon caught wind of interest from North End and went on to sign a three-year deal giving himself and the club security over the goalkeeping department for the long term.

From a Kaizen lifestyle mantra through to his work so far in pre-season, we touched ground on everything with PNE's new number one.

"It's like a build-up of tension," he told LancsLive. I came and did my medical and nobody was here, so it was nice on Monday to come in for training and get that first day out of the way. It is like the first day at school, you get it out of the way and then you can just crack on."

"We haven't done as much running, but goalkeepers are different. It is all up, down, up down and very difficult. The goalkeeping coach, Pollie, is very experienced and knows what you need to be a goalkeeper. We are not built for running but we need to be fit in other areas, and he has been very good. It's been a tough three days."
