'Never change' - Manchester United fans defend Lisandro Martinez after incident with Arsenal's Bukayo Saka

Manchester United fans have lept to the defence of Lisandro Martinez for his challenge on Bukayo Saka during their 2-0 win on Saturday.

United ran out comfortable winners thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes. The former pounced on a mistake by Gabriel before the captain's low strike beat Aaron Ramsdale from range.

However, it was an incident between Martinez and Saka that has caught the eye of fans in the aftermath to the match. United's defender, back from a long-term injury, took down Saka and was booked.

The full-blooded nature of Martinez's challenge resulting in a mini scuffle until the Argentina centre-back was separated from Gunner captain Martin Odegaard. Martinez seemed typically unphased by the argument, having built a reputation for his tough-tackling.

Following the fiery incident, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta suggested the referee maybe should have prevented the incident from happening. He said post-match: "They are here to compete and to win, as we are, and that’s the job of the referee to stop it."

United fans took to social media to defend their players, whilst also pointing out the lack of discussion around Amad, who was forced off injured and left the stadium on crutches.

Here's a sample of what they have had to say.
