Neil Warnock could be Celtic or Rangers title kingmaker as Aberdeen tipped to throw cat among the pigeons
Brendan Rodgers and Philippe Clement are locked in a title tussle for the ages – but Neil Warnock could still have his say in where the trophy goes.
That's the view of Pat Nevin, anyway, who reckons the Aberdeen boss could throw the cat amongst the pigeons with a charge into the top six. Veteran Warnock takes over a struggling Dons side who still have an outside chance of Europe given how tight things are in the Premiership, but first they need to land in the top six over their next ten games. If they can do that, Warnock will get his first pops at Celtic and Rangers - something he's made no secret of as a long-running ambition of his.
Of course overthrowing the Glasgow giants is well out of reach, but the Dons have bloodies both noses already this season and Nevin reckons Warnock could assume the role of kingmaker...of sorts. He told Lucky Block: "It was a bit of a surprise to see Neil Warnock rock up at Aberdeen. It's a bit like arriving on an alien planet and not knowing if you can breathe. That's how I think he must have felt up north.
"I'd say I'm really looking forward to seeing him there, though. People laughed and joked about it, but Warnock has serious football chops and he knows his stuff. He'll get Aberdeen organised. You don't stay at top-level football for so long out of luck.
“We're all hoping that someone can shake Scottish football up. Someone has to do something to challenge the Old Firm as they're back to being miles ahead of everyone else. I think Neil will want to have an effect, and I think he will. Aberdeen are ninth in the league, and I don't think they'll go down this season. They have some good players, too, like Bojan Miovski.
