Aberdeen FC closing in on unwanted club record as Neil Warnock can't arrest horror run of results

Aberdeen are closing in on equalling an unwanted club record for going the most league games without tasting victory in their 121 year history.

Neil Warnock's men conceded twice in stoppage time at St Mirren to taste defeat in Paisley after a stunning Connor Barron opener. The Dons held the advantage until a Mark O'Hara slotted home from the penalty spot in the 96th minute with Stephen Robinson's men grabbing a winner that sparked wild scenes on the pitch and in the stands one minute later through Toyosi Olusanya. The results was Aberdeen's TENTH game in the Premiership without a win - with their last success on league duty coming two days into the New Year at Ross County.

Now, they are just two games away from equalling the club record of 12 league games without a win, which was set 25 years ago. The Dons went a dozen games without tasting a league win from when Paul Hegarty was in charge for the last three games of the 1998/99 season and continued that winless run for another nine games under late Danish boss Ebbe Skovdahl the following term.

That dismal run lasted from May 1999 - when a Robbie Winters goal handed them a 1-0 win over St Johnstone - until late October, when they edged out Motherwell at Fir Park 6-5 in one of Scottish football's all-time most remarkable games that saw 11 goals conceded by two legendary Scotland keepers, Jim Leighton and Andy Goram.

If Aberdeen fail to beat Dundee and Motherwell away in their next two league games - after their Scottish Cup quarter final against Kilmarnock - they will equal the record. And if they can't beat fellow relegation battlers Ross County after that, they will set a new record. Aberdeen's longest streak without winning in all competitions is 15 games, set in 1952.
