Napoli 4-1 Liverpool: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's dazzling moment of genius

Napoli dispatched of Liverpool in impressive fashion on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

The Italian club, who were underdogs prior to kick-off, effectively did a Liverpool on Liverpool.

Pressing like mad dogs from the outset, Jurgen Klopp’s team couldn’t seem to cope with the intensity of Napoli.

So much so, that having given away two penalties and countless other major opportunities, Liverpool went into half-time 3-0 down in the clash.

None of Liverpool’s usual shining lights were at the races, especially across the defence and midfield.

Virgil van Dijk put in an uncharacteristically unassured display, Joe Gomez simply looked out of his depth and James Milner looked clumsy throughout in the middle of the park.

But that shouldn’t take away from what the Napoli players did on the night, to a team that, not four months ago, was competing in the very final of the competition itself.

Whilst their overall team display was quite honestly a joy to watch, the performance of one individual in particular has caught the eye of watching fans.

The 21-year-old Georgian winger was quite the unknown quantity for many, but after the way he played against the Reds, you won’t find many forgetting him in a hurry.

He signed for Napoli from Dinamo Batumi – the reigning champions of the Georgian first division – in a deal worth £9 million this past summer.

And since his arrival, has wasted no time in becoming a fan favourite at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Across his five Serie A appearances to date, Kvaratskhelia has bagged four goals and one assist.
