Chelsea: Tuchel was 'frustrated' with £50m star at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea‘s former manager Thomas Tuchel was left frustrated by Conor Gallagher’s start to his first-team career at Stamford Bridge, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
Gallagher returned to his boyhood club following his spell with Crystal Palace last season, but he’s been unable to hit the heights from his time at Selhurst Park.
Initially, the £50m-valued midfielder endured a tough start back at Chelsea, playing just six minutes during their opening two league games.
His lack of game-time led to increased speculation surrounding his future and whether going out on loan might be more beneficial.
But consecutive starts against Leeds and Leicester all-but ended any late transfer talk of him moving on before the 1 September, even though he was sent off after 28 minutes in the latter.
Gallagher sat out the Southampton defeat last week but came straight back into the starting XI against West Ham on Saturday for his third start in four, further highlighting how much trust Tuchel is putting in him.
The Chelsea boss clearly wasn’t best pleased with Gallagher, though, hauling him off after an hour for Armando Broja, who helped the Blues go on and claim a crucial 2-1 victory.
According to WhoScored, only Christian Pulisic has performed worse than Gallagher for Chelsea this season, with his rating an underwhelming 6.08.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “He [Tuchel] just wanted it to work to be honest and he was frustrated that it wasn’t. Tuchel was frustrated anyway though and Gallagher wanted his opportunity in this Chelsea team and he was unbelievable at Crystal Palace last year, so Tuchel wass trying to show faith in one of those young players.”
