Myziane Maolida tipped for Hibs transfer reinvention as Nick Montgomery looks to repeat Jason Cummings trick

Nick Montgomery is confident he can get €10m French ace Myziane Maolida’s career back flying - just like he did with former Hibs ace Jason Cummings.

The Easter Road boss admits Maolida would have been out of the Hibees’ league had it not been for issues that saw him demoted to Hertha Berlin’s second string. The former Lyon and Nice star became Montgomery ’s first signing after agreeing a loan switch from the Bundesliga II side on Thursday. And Montgomery reckons the HIbees faithful are in for a treat if he can get the 24-year-old firing just like he did with Cummings at Central Coast Mariners - a move that launched the former HIbee onto the World Cup stage with Australia.

Maolida had the world at his feet when he made a €10million move from Lyon to Nice as a 19-year-old. But a subsequent transfer to Germany saw the forward stumble and land in the second string after a falling out with boss Pal Dardai which saw the manager brand him “lazy”.

Maolida won’t be registered in time for this afternoon’s Scottish Cup clash with Forfar. But Montgomery hopes he will play a part against Rangers on Wednesday. He said: “Myziane is a player with undoubted potential and when his name arose it seemed like he was way out our means in terms of our budget.

“It’s massively exciting. He is desperate to come in and get his career back on track. When we sign a player it’s important you do due diligence. The feedback was that he’s massively talented but for whatever reason it maybe all came a bit too easy for Myziane.
