Murdoch MacLennan set for Premiership rebels grilling as under-fire SPFL chairman to host stormy Hampden summit

The Premiership Gang of Six will get the chance to grill SPFL Murdoch MacLennan when the chairman hosts a board meeting on Monday - with the league body’s governance and the content of the independent review commissioned by Hampden chiefs top of the agenda.

Half a dozen top flight clubs - Aberdeen, Livingston, Motherwell, Rangers, St Johnstone and St Mirren - joined forces to launch a blistering attack on the SPFL, writing to them to voice their concerns over the "independence and transparency" of their review into its governance.

They were dismayed that the SPFL executive had received a first draft of the report and made changes before the SPFL board had had a chance to meet. They also felt it was inappropriate that MacLennan had spoken publicly before the SPFL board had met to discuss the report. Now, the SPFL have confirmed that all 42 clubs are now in possession of the report after auditors Henderson Loggie gave the green light for it to be made public and MacLennan will chair the meeting, alongside SPFL independent non-executive director Karyn McCluskey.

A statement read: “We are pleased that, following further discussion with Henderson Loggie, we have now been able to circulate their independent governance review in its entirety to all 42 SPFL Clubs. Now that Clubs are in possession of the review, we are confident they will see for themselves how thorough and detailed the exercise was - and that Henderson Loggie have delivered in full on the brief announced in July 2023. Henderson Loggie's report contains a number of recommendations for the Board's consideration.
