Mum who lived in council house has life 'changed forever' after buying £5 raffle ticket 'on a whim'

A mum has had her life 'changed forever' after buying a £5 property raffle ticket which led her to winning £500,000. Jade Pilgrim, 30, was living in emergency council housing with her 11-year-old son after her landlord decided to take her private rented home back.

Throughout years of renting, the mum-of-one from west London had always dreamed of providing her son, 11, with a permanent home - something she worried would never be possible.

After a friend encouraged her to enter an online prize raffle by Tramway Path, Jade was sceptical about her changes to win, but decided to try her luck and bought a £5 ticket 'on a whim'.

Explaining the moment she got the phone call, she described: “As soon as I got off that call [telling me I’d won], I ran out of my car and started screaming from the side of the road. My partner was sitting next to me at the time and was in complete disbelief.

“I hadn’t even told him I’d entered a competition because I didn’t think anything would come of it. Once I’d calmed down, I rang my mum.

“At first, she thought it was a joke but once she realised this was the real deal, she started screaming alongside me on the phone.”

The mum-of-one, who was first told the good news on April 25 this year, has
