Motherwell were a clearance away from three points at Hibs, groans Kettlewell

Frustrated Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell groaned that his side were a clearance away from three points at Easter Road yesterday, as Hibs fought back to draw 2-2.

Kettlewell’s side fought back from Elie Youan’s opener to level though Theo Bair - scoring his third goal in two games - before Bevis Mugabi put them ahead in the second half, only for Youan to strike again in stoppage time to snatch a point for the hosts.

The result sees Motherwell drop down slightly to ninth in the Premiership, and Kettlewell would have preferred to go into the break with six points from their last two games.

He told Motherwell’s website: “My over-riding feeling is disappointment.

“There were obviously flash moments in the game where Hibs had their tails up, got in behind us and managed to get crosses into our box – we knew that was always going to be a threat, that’s how they play.

“But I thought we levelled ourselves off really well in the first half.

“I think the goal gives us a major lift, a wee bit of composure, and then you start to see a better structure about us, and better decision-making.

“The second half comes, you’re level, you know they’re going to throw everything at you, especially playing here at Easter Road, but again I thought we prodded our way back into the game.

“We managed to keep the ball alive from a set-play, Mika Biereth does excellent to keep the ball alive and Bevis does what he does with that leap, that spring that he has, and puts it in the back of the net.

“I thought we were pretty comfortable, if I’m being honest, I thought our structure was great and we had ironed out one or two problems in the game that we maybe had.
