Andy Halliday seals Motherwell transfer as permanent Hearts exit on the cards for midfielder

Andy Halliday has signed for Motherwell on a six-month loan deal from Hearts.

The Steelmen will make the move permanent at the end of the season on a one-year deal. Halliday has been out the picture at Tynecastle this season but has a wealth of Premiership experience over his time in Gorgie and with Rangers. He left Ibrox for Edinburgh in 2020 and has since made 109 appearances, but only six of them have been this term to the tune of 43 total minutes.

'Well boss Stuart Kettlewell has been hit with blow after blow this window, seeing star full-back Brodie Spencer recalled by Huddersfield, and talisman Mika Biereth has been taken back down south by parent club Arsenal. A season-ending injury to midfield regular Callum Slattery has only added to Kettlewell's woes in a month where only Adam Montgomery on loan from Celtic has come in, with Conor Wilkinson and Pape Souare also departing.

Halliday's arrival boosts an area of the pitch Motherwell are light in. They are also keen on a loan move for Charlton midfielder Scott Fraser.

Kettlewell said: “I’m delighted we have been able to get Andy on board. was other clubs interested in Andy so the fact he has came here, says a lot for me. To get a player with the ability, experience and versatility that Andy possesses is a huge positive for us. It will give everyone a boost going into our next match.”

Halliday added: "It’s a good feeling to be here. I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow and seeing all the supporters at Fir Park.”
