Motherwell derby clash perfect game for Hamilton Accies Women to bounce back from Montrose shocker

Hamilton Accies Women boss Robert Watson reckons their derby clash with Motherwell this weekend can be the perfect tonic for them to get over the hangover from their heavy defeat to rivals Montrose.

The New Douglas Park outfit have had to stew over the 7-0 thrashing for a fortnight after a break due to the Scottish Cup.

The result, where all the goals came in the second half of the contest, sent Accies back to the bottom of SWPL1 on goal difference and the players are desperate to make amends for one of their lowest points of the campaign.

A visit from the Women of Steel awaits on Sunday and Accies will be looking to replicate the 2-1 win they claimed over their Lanarkshire rivals last month to get their survival bid back on track.

Watson said: “If we are going to come back after a disappointing result, you want to go into one that has got a bit of hype about it to really refocus everyone

“I think a derby game is a good one for us to follow up on.

“They are always good games and I am amazed it hasn’t been picked up for TV.

“There is always goals and excitement in these games - the last game was no different.

“We had our backs to the wall the last time and managed to pull through with a result. In other games against Motherwell, we’ve done well and not picked up a result.

“Both teams are always desperate to win it and Sunday will be no different.”

It is a bit stop-start at the moment for Accies with Sunday’s match followed by another pause in play for more cup action.

Watson added: “I don’t think the scheduling of the cup games suits anyone.

“Having a cup weekend last week, followed by a league game and then another cup weekend after that doesn’t make much sense to me.

“But it is what it is. There isn’t much we can do
