Queen of the South boss praises players after point at Hamilton Accies

Queen of the South chief Marvin Bartley heaped lavish praise on his players after earning a point against second top Hamilton.

He was delighted his troops marched away with a draw which in turn handed Falkirk the Championship title and for once left a rival boss frustrated at the final whistle.

Bartley said: “I thought we were brilliant.

“We created a lot of chances and had a lot of good entries into the final third but it just wasn’t dropping in for us.

“We had some great strikes, but their keeper’s handling was extremely good because boys were following it up.

“But you’re always happy with the point if you come away from home to second top of the
league.

“I thought the boys gave me everything, they’ve worked hard and got a point from it.”

Bartley reckoned a draw was a fair result and told how his game plan included frustrating Accies and helping turn their home fans on them and cranking up the pressure with the title still up for grabs before kick off.

He added: “They needed to win, and it was that simple for them.

“We knew they were going to come and start fast, and it’s about standing up to that and then growing into the game.

“We lost a goal early the last time we were here, so we didn’t want that to happen.

“We knew the fans would get frustrated if they weren’t winning at half time and we had a game plan for the second half.

“And I thought the boys executed that really, really well today and we were the better team in the second half.

“And if there was one team going to win it, regardless of them going down to 10 men right at the end, (with Jamie Barjonas sent off) it was going to be us.”
