Motherwell boss has scope for January signings, despite boardroom upheaval

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell says there is scope for ‘one or two’ January signings, despite boardroom upheaval in the last week.

Chairman Jim McMahon and acting chief executive Derek Weir on Monday announced their intention to step down, citing that the Fir Park club needed “significant investment”.

Kettlewell says that wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction to anything and had been on the cards for some time.

But while Kettlewell says it won’t affect his plans for next month’s transfer window, he hopes others don’t leave to make way for new stars.

He said: “It looks like we will have a little bit of scope. In terms of the detail right now, that can alter, that can change, I can’t tell you exactly how many that’s going to be.

“What I would love – as it sits just now and what it looks like we might be able to do, would possibly be one or two.

“If there are other changes, I’m probably not in a position where I want to be losing players just now, because I keep referencing the actual numbers that we have sitting in the building.

“But what we would like to do is try and see if we can strengthen one or two positions, maybe give us another alternative, another option, in one or two of those positions.

“As we always know in football, even as small as our numbers are in our playing squad, then if one or two guys aren’t getting the same opportunity, or the opportunity that they want, then sometimes that can change.

“But we are absolutely sitting with a plan of what we can do, today, and on the face of it that looks like we might be able to bring in one, potentially two, to complement what we already have, give us a little bit of a hand, and a couple of options that might help us, moving forward.”

On the boardroom changes, Kettlewell
