Moffat Road Race returns after two year coronavirus absence

Moffat Road Race returned on Tuesday night after a Covid enforced absence for the past two years.

The testing nine-mile event is a key feature of the town’s annual gala week.

And this year’s winner was Tom Cammack in a time of 53 minutes and 24 seconds.

He was well ahead of Yacoub Bahar, who completed the course in 55.53, with Adam Park third in 56.20.

The race, which celebrated its 35th anniversary, starts and ends at Moffat Town Hall.

The most challenging part of the route is a steep, one mile hill climb rising 550 feet.

A spokeswoman for the organisers said: “We are happy with how it went, all the runners did great and everyone enjoyed their evening.

“After such a long break it was a great start.

“I want to say a huge thank you to all the sponsors who provided prizes and refreshments.

“Also a massive thank you to all the marshals who helped to navigate the run. Each year we need around 50 volunteers and it is great that people are always happy to help us. Without all this help we wouldn’t have this race.”

The junior races also took place on the night from 6pm. Children from five-16 years were able to compete in races of up to two miles.
