Mika Biereth crock shock tackle caused by 'slip' says St Mirren defender
St Mirren defender Charles Dunne claims a slip caused the tackle that has ruled Motherwell striker Mika Biereth out of action for three months.
The on-loan Arsenal forward was a victim of a lunging tackle by Dunne in Saturday's 1-0 Viaplay Cup win for St Mirren in Paisley, that raging boss Stuart Kettlewell insisted should have merited a red card.
But Dunne, 30, who played for Motherwell from 2017 until 2021, insists a slip led him to accidentally collide with the 20-year-old Dane, and says he has apologised to Biereth.
In a social media post, 'Dunney' said: "Makes me sad seeing this! Not once have I ever gone out to injure anyone on the pitch!
"I only had eyes for the ball and won the ball, but unfortunately I slipped, that's what caught him.
"I've reached out and text him, apologised and wished him all the best in his recovery."
Motherwell say a knee injury sustained by Biereth in the challenge will rule him out for "up to 12 weeks".
