Former Rangers and St Mirren midfielder joins Airdrie as boss hails 'elegant and nasty' attributes
Airdrieonians have announced the signing of former Rangers and St Mirren youth midfielder Gavin Gallagher.
The 19-year-old has been training with the Diamonds and has now put pen to paper on a deal ahead of tomorrow's Championship clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he could make his competitive debut.
Gallagher joins following the departure of midfielder Justin Devenny to English Premier League side Crystal Palace.
And Airdrie player-boss Rhys McCabe told the club website: "Gavin’s a very technical central midfielder, he’s elegant in the way that he plays. He’s got a wee nasty side to him too, in a good way!
“He’s one that I’ll be looking to develop - I see real potential in him, similar to the Justin Devenny situation.
“His attributes are fundamental for the way that we want to play, so he’ll be one that will be knocking on the door of the first team.”
Gallagher told airdriefc.com: “I like to get on the ball, and I like to think I can do the other side of the game pretty well.
“I’ve been in for three or four weeks now and I feel like part of the team. Obviously I’m just trying to get as many appearances as I can!
“As I’ve been in, the standards have been so high - they like to knock the ball about, play out from the back - a great style of football, and that’s just my kind of game.”
