Motherwell striker faces a spell out but Ricki Lamie exit could facilitate new signing, says boss

Striker Conor Wilkinson will sidelined for 4-6 weeks, as Motherwell's mounting injury crisis shows now sign of abating.

Boss Stuart Kettlewelll was already cursing his luck after Arsenal loan forward Mika Biereth was ruled out for three months earlier this week, adding to Jon Obika and Pape Souare's lengthy absences due to a hamstring and groin problem, respectively.

And now Wilkinson has been added to the injury list with a calf injury, which ruled him out of today's dramatic 2-1 win over Kilmarnock.

Wilkinson will be out until at least the end of September, but Kettlewell says he will move to find another striker before transfer deadline day, after confirming reports Ricki Lamie - who is expected to join Dundee - looks set to leave the club on loan.

Kettlewell said: "Conor pulled up with his calf the other day so we are three first team strikers down.

"It leaves us with one fully fit senior striker in Theo Bair, but the situation doesn't change for me.

"We are still going to have to move players out before we can bring players in.

"Conor has had a scan and it looks like a four to six week injury.

"It is a tough spot to be in and I think that's what added to the result today, that we were able to do it, showing a great resilience in adversity.

"Seeing that many forward players being injured in the one swoop is a hard one to take."

On Lamie going elsewhere, he added: "There looks like a situation where Ricki could be on the move.

"To alter and redress the balance in the squad that is probably a situation that will happen.

"That is maybe the opportunity to free up funds for us to see if we can bring in another attack-minded player.

"It is certainly something we are looking at.
