Michael Olise could be just what Manchester United need amid transfer links

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's arrival at Old Trafford marks the beginning of a new chapter in Manchester United's history.

It was announced on Christmas Eve that the INEOS chief had reached an agreement with the club to secure a 25 per cent stake, subject to Premier League ratification. As part of the agreement, Ratcliffe and his team will secure control of the club's football operations.

It means Ratcliffe will now control all recruitment-related matters in M16. After years of overspending on players who have failed to deliver, the British billionaire will be aware of the importance of correcting the club's recruitment strategy.

Two of United's biggest failings in most recent years have been their decisions to invest £72.9million and £85.5m respectively in two right-wingers. One could be set to return to the club they bought him from this month and the other has not scored a goal or provided a single assist all season.

Both Jadon Sancho and Antony are perfect case studies of where United have gone wrong in recent years, particularly the latter. Manager Erik ten Hag pleaded with the club's hierarchy to sign the Brazilian from Ajax in the summer of 2022, resulting in them making him the club's second-most expensive signing of all-time.

North of 60 appearances into his United career though patience is wearing thin. Antony has scored just eight goals and registered three assists since he joined the club with none coming this season.
