Rangers can be chaotic and next manager will find same old problems as signings aren’t good enough – Barry Ferguson

Plenty of people will be buzzing at seeing the back of Michael Beale. I must say, I’m not one of them. Not because I think he’s been binned too soon. I knew he had to go myself on Saturday night as I slumped into my seat after watching another woeful performance in the defeat against Aberdeen.

The board stood firm and gave him time to dig himself out of a hole when there were calls for his head after losing the first Old Firm game of the season. That was the right thing to do. But they have also been swift enough to make the decision at this moment because it means the season can still be salvaged. And it stops the situation becoming any more toxic than it already is.

So I get all of that. But what saddens me is that, throughout history, Rangers have prided themselves on not chopping and changing managers every six months. The club’s record in that regard was almost unique. And it provided a sense of stability and order. But what’s happened over these last few years is exactly the opposite. What Rangers need right now is a manager who can be trusted to lead them forward over the course of the next three, four or five years. Get the right man in and give him time to restore some calmness by giving the fans what they want most of all - trophies. And plenty of them.

I’m sorry that Beale wasn’t that man. Like every other Rangers supporter, I desperately wanted to see him succeed. Same with Giovanni van Bronckhorst before him. But that’s two managers gone in the space of ten months and Rangers can’t go on like this any longer. As I said, I’m not stupid
