Raging Rangers fan reignites feud with Barry Ferguson as spiky Tavernier defence dished out to 'cheerleader' caller

One irate Rangers punter reckons the first step for the new manager is to STRIP James Tavernier of the captaincy.

And in another verbal tete-a-tete with Record Sport columnist and Ibrox hero Barry Ferguson, the infamous supporter traded blows over whether Michael Beale's successor should take the armband away from the right back. Tavernier came in for heavy criticism following the defeat to Aberdeen that saw his boss lose his job on Sunday night. The Ibrox hierarchy must now move to get a new man in the door but Ferguson insists it will take time to assess the surroundings.

The likes of Yokohama Marinos boss Kevin Muscat, former Chelsea man Frank Lampard and Pascal Jansen of AZ Alkmaar have all been linked with the now vacant post. The fuming fan, who previously branded the Ferguson a "cheerleader" for Beale on live radio, reckons there's no option but for the Rangers captain but to lose his right as skipper. However, the former skipper believes there's no need to rip up the script for the new man.

The punter blasted on Go Radio: "Do you think you called it wrong after the Celtic game Barry? If you watch the style of football in the last four games was taking me back 20 years," before Ferguson replied: "I stick by what I said after the game, I think the board made the right decision with keeping him as manager after the Celtic game. Now if you're going to come on and try to argue, that's up to you."

The fan added: "Well at the end of the day it's probably cost Rangers the championship," before Ferguson reminded the caller there's still 31 games of the season left.
