Michael Beale insists calling Rangers tenure a day was NEVER an option with manager too in love at Ibrox
Beleaguered Michael Beale last night insisted he cares too much about Rangers to walk away from Ibrox.
The under-fire Londoner has been faced with calls to quit from the livid Light Blue fanbase since seeing his side follow up a pasting from PSV with another damaging defeat to Celtic in this season’s Old Firm opener. But Beale insists he’s determined to fight on after that disastrous start to the new season as he batted away demands to resign.
Asked if he’d considered calling time on his 10-month tenure, the 43-year-old - who faces a win-or-bust Perth trip to face St Johnstone as he looks to cling on to his job - said: “No, no, never. I care too much for the club and I know the work that’s going on behind the scenes. I think it’s far too early. The Old Firm match was the first game I’ve lost at home. I get the background noise because of the way the PSV game went as well. But, nah, it wasn’t in my mind.”
Record Sport revealed last week that Gers chairman John Bennett and his board had decided against pulling the trigger on Steven Gerrard’s former sidekick - but only on the understanding results and performances need to improve sharpish. Beale’s been back in touch with the top brass this week but insists he’s not sought out assurances he’s still wanted.
He said: “Naturally, I speak to our chief exec James Bisgrove every day. I speak to John Bennett and other members of the board at least two or three times a week, so nothing has changed in that respect.
“We’ve sat and discussed this first period up until the September international break, and as we do during all international breaks. It’s a chance for reflection.
“Listen, I don’t need any assurances. I’m part of a plan in terms of where we’re going as a club. t’s
